Morning Yoga Practice: Get Inspired for Your Day Ahead

Welcome to your morning yoga practice to cultivate inspiration by linking your breath with movement and setting the intention to take your inspiration off the mat and into your day ahead.

If you’re someone who wants to feel connected, tap into your purpose, unearth your innate energy, and do it without too much damn effort, then this is the yoga practice for you.

….. and hey, if you only want half of those things (or none) this practice is still for you, stick around.

Today’s yoga sequence will take you through various postures, like:

  • seated twists, one of my favorites
  • half sun salutations, perfect for warming up the body
  • low lunge sun salutations, perfect balance of effort and ease
  • standing lunge series, awesome for building confidence + strength
  • yogi recess to cultivate your unique inspiration

And, we end the practice with a short meditation to seal your efforts.

Essentially, this is your 15 minute wake up call to move your body, connect with your breath, and get inspired AF for the day ahead!

Buttttttt.

Before you get too excited and step on that mat, let’s jam on the idea of inspiration for a minute, yeah?

Here’s what I’ve come to understand and appreciate about this magical thing called “inspiration.” Number one, it’s a gift. It doesn’t owe you anything, it doesn’t guarantee it’s arrival, departure, or how long it will stay. It won’t promise you a certain outcome, result, or experience.

It simply shows up, gifts you a moment of magic, and off it goes…… onto the next victim to create the inspiration dance.

Number two, because inspiration has an agenda of it’s own, you CANNOT wait for it. I repeat, you cannot, under zero circumstances, wait for the magic to appear. So what do you do?

YOU GET TO WORK.

You put your head down. You stay focused on the goal. You work your ass off. You take a break (because you deserve it). And you start all over again.

And it’s here, doing the work, that inspiration comes knocking. It shows up unannounced, without an invitation, and definitely without an RSVP to whisk you away into that moment where everything feels effortless.

Your thoughts start flowing, the dots start connecting, and everything that felt so hard before, suddenly feels easy.

That’s inspiration and oh man, it feels so good.

But remember, it doesn’t come when you will it and it doesn’t come by sitting back and waiting for it. And here’s where you might be thinking to yourself, but how does this relate to my yoga practice, please explain Allie?

Let me backtrack for a moment and define what “doing the work” means.

It’s when you make a commitment to focus on you, to prioritize what you need, and to stay on the path even when roadblocks suddenly appear. Is this starting  to sound like your yoga practice?

Stepping on the mat even when you don’t feel like it, sticking with a sequence even though it’s challenging the hell out of you, returning to the mat with an injury and learning how to modify for you current needs….. this is the work in action.

And of course, it translates to all facets of our being, like healthy eating habits, self-care priorities, positive relationships, and leaning into the discomfort of becoming a better version of ourselves each day.

So to wrap this up, because I know you’re dying to get on that mat, INSPIRATION is available to all of us, it doesn’t discriminate. But it’s more apt to visit and dance with those who are doing the work.

So tell me, are you ready to do the work?

I already know you are, otherwise you wouldn’t have read ALL THE WAY to here.

Now step on your mat and let’s do this inspiration thing together, one breath, one movement.

I’ll meet you there!
