Let’s talk yoga leggings.
We all wear them. We all love them. And we all want more of them. Or I at least always want more of them (to my bank account’s dismay).
Whether you’re new to the yoga game or a seasoned veteran, it’s a given that yoga leggings are a necessity. And even if yoga isn’t your thang, leggings in general are a must-need tool to ensure a great workout experience. Unless you dig naked yoga sessions, which is totally understandable (I like them too).
I’ve had my fair share of not so great yoga leggings and trust me, it’s not a pretty experience.
The leggings have either been too tight, too long, too short, not breathable, see-through, or just plain horrible. And I’ve learned over the years and through many (too many) yoga legging purchases that quality matters over quantity.
Let me repeat that – quality leggings will always surpass quantity.
So here’s the deal… running a yoga blogosphere like this one comes with great perks like free products, exposure to brands, sponsored posts, and brand collaborations.
That last perk is my absolute favorite – brand collaboration.
When I’m able to work directly with a brand and brainstorm ideas to benefit both them and this online platform, then a yoga match made in heaven happens. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience for everyone involved – you (the readers) are exposed to new companies, I am exposed too + receive some fun product, and the brand grows their exposure + hopefully makes a few sales. It’s the best of all worlds…
With all of that being said, this post is a collaboration between The Journey Junkie and Sadhana clothing – a yoga/sportsware brand. After receiving their beautiful yoga clothing products and testing them out in the sweatiest of sweaty yoga classes, I can without a doubt endorse this company. Or shall I say – they’re Journey Junkie approved.

To circle back to where we started and why you’re here – yoga leggings come in all shapes and sizes and in different colors and patterns. The selection process can quickly become overwhelming with the enormous amount of options out there. So I’ll make it real easy on ya yogis…
Below are 3 main factors I consider when it’s time to invest in a new pair of yoga leggings. Please use this information to help guide your next yoga legging purchase, because as I said before – it’s about quality over quantity!
1. The Fit
This is my number one, must-have requirement when making a purchase of any kind, especially if it’s a purchase related to my yoga practice.
Your yoga practice should be a moving meditation, a time for you to disconnect from the external, and a moment to be free from distractions. This cannot be achieved when your leggings are either too tight, too long, too see-through, or not breathable.
Below are the most important qualities for me when it comes to overall fit:
1. Compression in ALL the right places.
That word compression can come off a bit weird but in a nutshell, it’s how the design holds you in. We all like extra support and stability but too much can lead to constriction and discomfort.
There has to be a perfect balance between sucking it all in and still providing comfort. And since that’s an opposing idea in itself, this can be a hard one to achieve.
Sadhana’s leggings definitely achieve that perfect balance – comfortable yet tight in all the right places… right places being that yoga booty area, LOL.
2. The Waistband
The waistband is another biggie for me. I love a wide waistband and only buy yoga leggings that feature this design. The wider the band, the happier the yogi.
I find that a wide waistband supports the midsection region, moves with ease as you bend and transition through your practice, and is simply comfortable.
3. The Fabric
And lastly when it comes to fit, the fabric is a major deciding factor.
If you’ve purchased leggings from a discount retailer and then invested in a quality purchase, there’s a major difference in the touch and feel of the higher price point garment.
In addition to the silky smooth feeling of Sadhana’s leggings – they’re also so damn breathable. I feel light as a feather, smooth as butter, and free as the wind blowing through my hair. That sounds cheesy but it’s the truth, they’re that good.
2. The Design
After you’ve accomplished all of number one’s requirements, then the focus turns to the design. And if you’ve walked into a yoga studio lately, then it’s obvious that design matters.
I tend to lean towards more traditional or basic yoga legging patterns – basically solid colors or a minimal design pattern. But after talking to Sadhana’s creators and learning about their passionate designs, I gave in and went with a crazy, funky yoga legging.
And guess what – yoginis freaking love them! I wore them to a hot yoga class a few nights prior and people had nothing but sweet things to say.
Lesson learned – designs are in, basic is out.
3. The Price Point
And lastly to consider in the yoga legging world is – the price point.
For some of us, the price point is the number one factor. And that used to be me – 100% all the time, always hunting for the best deal… until I got fed up with shitty yoga clothes.
In general, I like to buy leggings in the $50 – $75 price point. I definitely crush on some beautiful leggings that are in the $100 price range but try my best to stay far, far away.
This last point is a personal decision that you have to be comfortable with. I do what’s right for me and you should do what’s right for you – plain and simple.
Just like yogis, yoga leggings come in all shapes and sizes. It’s our job to navigate the endless options and find what’s work best for us.
The ultimate goal is for you + me to flow through a yoga class with comfort, ease, and grace all the while wearing badass yoga leggings.
